Project Description

Ballard CLC served as the Designer of Record for this CTC project to construct tactical range training facilities in support of a Brigade Combat Team Live Fire Training with three Infantry Battalions in a single event to support infantry companies in a tactical movement scenarios.

The live fire range requirements of the project include construction of 32 Stationary Infantry Targets Emplacements (SIT’s), 26 overhead cover structures for the SIT’s that are removable, two earthen berms and retaining walls, each 225 yards in length for a Moving Armor Target track system, 6 subterranean grenade sumps, and two stationary military vehicle target berms. The rehearsal site requirements include construction of 32 Stationary Infantry Targets Emplacements (SIT’s), 26 overhead cover structures for the SIT’s that are removable, two earthen berms and retaining walls, each 90 yards in length for a Moving Armor Target track system and two stationary military vehicle target berms.

This project site was heavily wooded track of land. The topography consists of a ridge in the center of the project falling off on both sides with small swales throughout the live fire and rehearsal areas which are 130 acres in size.

Erosion control measures will follow the approved SWPPP and consist of temporary and permanent measures to minimize the loss of site sediments from the job site. Temporary measures must be erected and maintained for the life of the project and until the site is fully stabilized. No work including site clearing or demolition work on the site may proceed until the erosion control measures and Best Management Practices for that phase of work are in place and functioning. Before beginning construction, the approved Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) must be implemented and meet the requirements of LADEQ and DPW (Environmental & Storm Water Management Section). Temporary measures include silt fencing along fill slopes and hay bales and rock filter dams at runouts or along ditches.

Erosion control measures shall be installed and confirmed prior to any other construction activities. All disturbed soil areas outside of earthwork and gravel will be receive establishment of grass thru seeding and fertilizing
