Alexandria Lake District

The Lake District Development includes a ring levee system surrounding an elaborate planned development covering approximately 425 acres within the city limits of Alexandria, Louisiana. Numerous man-made lakes have been constructed to raise the foundation of the adjacent property, landscape features, and used as retention basins. The existing wetlands within the development are maintained by diverting runoff during normal rainfall events and as storage during extreme rainfall events. Each of the four lakes (5-15 acres) has a control structure to maintain a different water surface elevation. The Lakes are designed to work as a gravity network and pass a 100 year design storm using control structures and flap gates. During backwater conditions, the 120 cfs storm water pump station will be used to lift the water over the levee protecting the development.
